Call for blood donations
Tasmania Blood Collections | Tasmania Parkinson's Project

About the Project
The Tasmania Parkinson’s Project is contributing to the Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program (GP2), a worldwide collaboration aiming to accelerate discoveries in Parkinson’s disease by bringing together genetic and clinical data from across the globe. As part of this research, TPP is collecting blood samples to better understand the genetic factors involved in Parkinson’s disease. By taking part, you will be helping to build a resource that supports researchers internationally in improving diagnosis, understanding disease progression, and developing new treatments.

Who Can Take Part?
TPP is inviting adults living in Tasmania, including:

  • People diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease

  • People with conditions related to Parkinson’s (including multiple system atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal syndrome, and dementia with Lewy bodies)

  • People without Parkinson’s (healthy volunteers)

  • All groups are essential to help understand what changes are specific to Parkinson’s disease.

What Does Participation Involve?
Participation is straight-forward and can be completed online and in-person.

  • Online or in-person QuestionnairesBrief questionnaires about your health and possible symptoms (approximately 20-30 minutes)

  • In-person Blood Collection: Collection at one of our University of Tasmania campuses (approximately 15 minutes)

When and where Are Appointments Available?
Appointments will be available throughout June, July, August and September 2026. TPP will be visiting each University of Tasmania campus to offer appointments in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.

Why Take Part?
By participating, you will:

  • Contribute to research aimed at improving early detection of Parkinson’s disease

  • Help researchers better understand genetic risk factors

  • Support the development of future treatments

  • Be part of a global research effort through GP2

  • Get to meet the researchers and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee before or after your blood collection.

Every participant plays an important role in advancing Parkinson’s research. Register your interest on the TPP website (or click button below). Invitations and booking links will be sent to those who have registered closer to the date. If you have any queries, please contact the research team at: parkinsons@utas.edu.au or call 03 6226 5640.
